The gender dimension of the city – Here is an unapproachable subject until now in the Romanian research in the field of Gender Studies. Is the city a safe and friendly space for women, at macro level (urban politics), at messo level (local planning) or at micro level (everyday practices)?
Is the city planned and built taking also into account the needs of women, with their diversity regarding their age, ethnicity, social status, education or health? Is it important to also make an analyses regarding the dynamics of the city from this gendered perspective? In this context, is Bucharest, an European city, capital of Romania, considerate to the inclusion, diversity and equality problems?
Looking for answers, The Society of Feminist Analyzes AnA (www.anasaf.ro), in partnership with Front Association (www.feminism-romania.ro), composed the project “Urban Discrimination. Gender-sensitive program of active citizenship.”, an interdisciplinary project that contains the connected exhibition, where the female artists intend to question different gender issues that exist in the urban space.
Event made within the project “Urban Discrimination. Gender-sensitive program of active citizenship”, a program funded through the SEE Grants 2009-2014, NGO Fund in Romania. The content of the material doesn’t represent necessary the official position of SEE Grants 2009-2014.
